Thank You for Your Interest in Bridlington Street Angels

First launched in Halifax in November 2005 to address some of the issues around the night-time economy on Friday and Saturday nights – Street Angels has become a successful project in many towns throughout the country.

Here in Bridlington our Bridlington Street Angels launched in the mid-summer of 2013, on the evening of Saturday 22 June, with the aim of making our town a better place to live-in and to visit. We patrol, initially, just on Saturdays from 2200 until the early hours of Sunday morning. As more people join Bridlington Street Angels we will be able to extend the days and scope of our operation.

Many of the towns and cities where these projects run, including Halifax, Hull, Scarborough and York, report significant reduction in crime as thousands of people are being helped by these groups of volunteers, who go above and beyond the call of duty, as they bring about real and lasting change in their towns. These nightlife initiatives have seen violent crime reduced by over 55% and the total of night-time economy ‘incidents’ have reduced by up to 80% in some town centres.

Through the work of Street Angels numerous people will receive help and assistance in Bridlington including:

  • people leaving The Spa and other venues
  • young people who have become vulnerable in the town
  • those who are homeless and wish to be sign-posted to help
  • those who have had a few too many to drink and need a helping hand
  • visitors who need direction
  • people in need of basic first aid but not a trip to A&E
  • glasses and glass bottles being picked up by us to make the streets safer

This is a model of best practice that is making a difference in over one hundred and twenty towns and cities across the UK!

Bridlington Street Angels is the local church working in partnership with the Humberside Police and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
